Ms. Coulter's (played by Ruth Wilson) golden monkey makes an appearance.
The trailer comes during a Hall H panel that included stars James McAvoy (Lord Asriel), Dafne Keen (Lyra), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Lee Scoresby), Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Coulter) and executive producer Jane Tranter.
Honestly, this trailer included everything that sells His Dark Materials as a must-watch fantasy event, at least for the first episode.
The Victorian era-inspired background of His Dark Materials sees humans living in concert with their daemons, which are sort of like animal familiars and are physical manifestations of their souls. And also one heavily-armored polar bear, who just absolutely steals the show here. But after Lyra witnesses a failed assassination attempt and a mysterious and charming woman enters her life, a secretive group of child kidnappers known as the "Gobblers" throw her life into disarray. He agreed with Tranter's comments about the series being important for all ages, adding that it's very timely in 2019. A movie adaptation starring Nicole Kidman was released in 2007.
His Dark Materials premieres on HBO later this Fall. It's the story of young Lyra (Logan star Dafne Keen) who embarks on a global adventure when she's thrust into a mystery surrounding missing children and a particle called Dust which holds vast secrets to the universe. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will. "Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and unsafe secrets, with the fate of both the living-and the dead -in their hands".
