The Patriots certainly have options when it comes to finding Brady's eventual replacement, and perhaps Stidham will be able to develop into a franchise quarterback in New England.
Stidham already has a connection on the Patriots in fellow 2019 draft pick Damien Harris from Alabama. This past season, he threw for 2,794 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions as he guided Auburn to an 8-5 record in his junior year.
Stidham started each of his two seasons for the Tigers after signing with Auburn in December 2016 as a transfer.
Now he'll get a few years to learn under the best quarterback to play the game.
He added: "This is a great fit for me and my skill set and I'm really looking forward to diving deeper into this system and getting to learn from Coach Belichick, Coach McDaniels, Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, just learning from all of these people". Stidham didn't buy into that mindset and is looking to "soak up" from Brady.
Stidham's journey to the National Football League took a few unexpected detours.
Those with knowledge of the situation called the Auburn offense dysfunctional in 2018 with the primary factor in it being lack of a good offensive line, below average wideouts, and poor coaching.
