In 2017, a stampede broke out on a crowded pedestrian bridge connecting two railway stations in Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment capital, killing at least 22 people and injuring 32. "Spoke to BMC Commissioner and Mumbai Police officials and instructed to ensure speedy relief efforts in coordination with Railway Ministry officials", Fadnavis said. However, we're extending all our supports to the victims.
The bridge was commonly known as "Kasab bridge" as the 26/11 Mumbai attack terrorist passed through it during the terror strike. "It'll also be probed", he said. Injured persons have been shifted to Gokuldas Tejpal (GT), St George and LTMG hospital at Sion. The people in the area were affected and commuters were asked to use alternate routes.
As part of the re-audit, the civic body also reassigned the bridges that had been audited by the firm responsible for auditing the collapsed Himalaya footbridge at the city's CSTM railway station to another structural auditor.
Police registered cases against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Indian Railway officials charging them with culpable homicide.
Fadnavis said an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh would be made to the families of each of the dead, and Rs 50,000 to each of the injured.
