"There's more people that want everything that El Chapo controlled".

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D., Ill.) suggested Wednesday he was open to using money seized from convicted Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to pay for the appropriations package recently agreed to by congressional negotiators.

The jury of the federal court in Brooklyn has found Guzman guilty on all 10 counts and now the drug lord faces a life sentence.

Guzman will be sentenced in June.

Reaction in his native state of Sinaloa, home to remote mountain villages and sunny beaches along Mexico's Pacific coast, ranged from lament to resignation that little will change now that Guzman is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

"It is a sentence from which there is no escape and no return", Donoghue told a news conference outside the courthouse, through snow and sleet.

Guzman broke out of Mexican prisons twice - once using a mile-long secret tunnel - before he was recaptured and extradited to the United States in 2017.

"I'd be absolutely shocked if he's not sent to the ADX".

Prisoners at ADX are held in specially designed "control units" that function as prisons within prisons.

"It's like a self-contained area within a self-contained area within a self-contained area", Levine said.

Within months of his arrest, Mexican authorities extradited Guzman to NY to face charges.

Guzman listened to a drumbeat of guilty verdicts on drug and conspiracy charges that could put the 61-year-old escape artist behind bars for decades in a maximum-security USA prison selected to thwart another one of the breakouts that made him a folk hero in his native country.
