While Cardi B, Travis Scott, Pusha T and Nipsey Hussle all had incredible albums past year, people thought the late Mac Miller might take home the gong for his fifth studio album Swimming, which was also nominated for the category.
Ariana Grande has been in the spotlight for most of her life - from her start as a Disney Channel child actor to last night's (February 10) Grammy win - but apparently she's been in the headlines for even longer than we thought.
Fans believed that Ariana Grande was shading Cardi B. for taking home the Grammy for Best Rap Album instead of Mac Miller.
Ariana Grande was not happy when Mac Miller didn't win his Grammy.
"Fuck", she wrote in a since-deleted tweet, before writing "trash" and "Literal bullshit".
"I know i'm not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things. but f**k. this is wild and handsome. thank you so much".
"I saw those tweets and what she said".
Grande said she was upset that the Recording Academy invited Miller's parents to the awards show to watch their son lose. He was, however, recognised during the In Memoriam section where the Grammys pays tribute to all the stars who have died since the 2018 show.
Grande said on the show that she had recorded another version of the song, which ended up being the first No. 1 on the Billboard charts of her career, without the names before deciding to release the other version. "But we realised that you might need some space", NASA tweeted along with an image of the cosmos referring to the song on Friday.
As you probably remember, Mac Miller tragically passed away at the age of 26, of a drug overdose.
Despite being nominated, Ariana was not attending the event herself after she reportedly fell out with producers over which songs she could perform on the night, according to The Daily Mail.
