Against Everton Cech, kept only his third clean sheer in the last 23 matches as the Gunners moved up to a healthy six place as they hunt for silverware this season. "I think this is what we lacked over the last three years, since I arrived".
Emery's decision sparked claims Cech was on the way out, but the Arsenal captain had other ideas as he rolled back the years with a vintage display. Teenage prodigy Emile Smith Rowe makes his full debut for the first-team, starting in attack alongside the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck.
"We'll be helping him improve his quality this year - more goals, more assists, working to help when we need quick pressing against the opposition". There were seasons where you felt like we were in with a shout but then through various circumstances it wasn't to be.
Rob Holding and Mohamed Elneny return as well, while the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Matteo Guendouzi make their first appearance in a cup competition for Arsenal.
Cech, 36, added: "Everton created a lot of chances in the first half and we had to stick together".
"But for me, the focus is only on the performance and each match, every training".
After a goalless first half, Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring on 56 minutes, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed victory three minutes later.
The game took a different start though, and it took Arsenal a while to find a rhythm.
He might face a tough task to leapfrog in-form striking duo Lacazette or Aubameyang in the pecking order, but there appears to be little doubt Welbeck will get plenty of game time at Emirates Stadium if he keeps up his current form.
Lacazette also scored late for the Gunners on Wednesday after Alan Judge had made it a nervous second half for the hosts by pulling a goal back from a free kick. Since his Premier League debut on February 3, only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (16) has scored more goals than Aubameyang's 12. I know they are in the previous year of their contract with the team, and they are working and speaking with the club.
"We need every player when chances and opportunities are coming because we need to also take more players to play", he said.
