Seahawks safety Earl Thomas ends holdout ahead of Week 1

Rookie Shaquem Griffin will start at weak-side linebacker for the Seahawks in their season-opener against the Broncos, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday. And luckily for Thomas, the Seahawks have agreed to waive the majority of his fines.

Thomas has since reported to the Seahawks, but he still doesn't appear to be thrilled with his situation.

"With that being said, the disrespect has been well noted and will not be forgotten", Thomas wrote after indicating he wouldn't let his teammates down this weekend.

He addressed his absence from the team in an Instagram post on Wednesday. Aside from suffering a broken leg late in the 2016 season, Thomas has been a durable starter from the time he arrived in the league.

Seattle has not wanted to give Thomas an extension, apparently as part of its "retooling" that also saw the team move on from the likes of Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett, wanting Thomas to play out the final year. Earl Thomas' absence could prove to be one of the more detrimental losses for Seattle this offseason. During the off-season would you have traded a second and third rounder for Thomas? His career highlights include six Pro Bowl selections, three AP first-team All-Pro honors and a win over the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.Though Seattle's defense is not as intimidating as it once was, having Thomas available to play makes them more formidable. That likelihood, apparently, is enough to keep the Cowboys brass from ponying up whatever pot-sweeteners Seattle now wants.
