It's vital Sterling stays at City, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola believes that keeping Raheem Sterling at Manchester City is of the utmost importance. However, Mendy's return before the end of the season, will be good for France and City.

"In terms of contracts, I'm not the guy, it's Txiki [Begiristain, the director of football] who's talking about that", Guardiola said. "No doubt it's important, the deals of the agents and the circumstances".

And while you'd expect the top search for a Premier League footballer to be about his weekly wage, or maybe even some juicy transfer gossip... all people want to know is why Sterling runs the way he does. "The problem with Sergio is he is so important for us".

According to reports, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also assessing Sterling's contract situation.

Sterling was man of the match in England's 1-1 draw against Italy, and from being a fringe player a year ago is now considered a certain starter when England take to the field in Russian Federation in June.

Sergio Aguero is back in contention. Aguero missed Argentina's two recent friendlies in the worldwide break, against Italy and Spain, as well as City's 2-0 win at Stoke City on March 12.

"He is much, much better", Guardiola said. We will see tomorrow'.

"Especially over the past week or 10 days as he has been training with us".

"No doubts, it's so important (to keep him)", said the City manager. "For his confidence, it's so important".

Victory over Everton on Saturday would set City up for the derby clash with Manchester United the following week - where a win would see them crowned champions.

Guardiola warned that his players must be at their absolute best with the Champions League doubleheader against Liverpool. Of course if it's not going well and we are not winning, you think, 'What do we have to do?' That is normal. "It was a long time injured".
