Social media threat investigated by Shawnee Police

Police say they heightened security at the high school Thursday.

"There is no indication the post was specifically referring to schools in Bellingham", BPD said on its Facebook page, "and several news articles indicate the post referenced a school in OH". The department said no positive threat was confirmed for Spiro.

For example, the school district is getting ready to launch a new text line for tips on any concern that students, parents or community residents want to report, Stockman said.

Hanlin said she was notified Wednesday evening about the social media post, and, after some checking, determined a fake account had been created on Facebook. Some thought the threats were aimed at Savannah High School. "As always, the Slidell Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish School System will do everything to ensure the safety of our school children", read the post from Slidell Police. Investigators have made contact with officials in Springfield, Ohio who are confident that the threat was directed at a school within their jurisdiction.

Anderson went on to say that since the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fl. last Wednesday the agency has seen an increase in threats.

"It depends on the threat, is this person easily identifiable?"

Berwick police in Columbia County said they also saw the viral post and passed the information to Bloomsburg police for further investigation.

The threat remains under active investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Office and federal law enforcement partners.

Southeastern Local School leaders also took precautions on Thursday.
