Team GB given target of winning five medals at 2018 Winter Olympics

With a month to go until the Games in South Korea, and several competitors yet to be selected, UK Sport is predicting a possible range of between four and 10 medals based on performances. As early as 100 days before the start of the Winter Olympics, the organizing committee declared that they are fully ready to host the Games.

That has more than doubled to £32m over four years for Pyeongchang, but the sums involved contrast starkly with the £100m annual investment in summer Olympic sports. It is high risk, it has high reward, it has high stakes in a very competitive arena. UK Sport has forecast 6-12 medals at the Winter Paralympics, which follows in March.

Yarnold, who has struggled this season, has been given a top-eight target for 2018 along with team-mate Laura Deas.

The VR content will include the opening and closing ceremonies, behind-the-scene interviews, and all-time favorite events like ski jumping, snowboarding, figure skating, ice hockey, and curling.

NBC and Intel also said that viewers will also be able to "fly through the Olympic world, tour Olympic venues and different areas throughout Korea".

Short track speed skater Elise Christie, a triple gold medalist at last year's world championships, will again be one of the big hopes after bouncing back from three disqualifications in Sochi.

VR streaming in sports isn't a novel idea, but this would be the first time for the Olympics to be streamed in VR to nearly all VR headsets.
