A 16-year-old boy opened fire on his entire family in their New Jersey home on New Year's Eve, killing four people, including his parents and his 18-year-old sister. The suspect is expected to be arraigned as an adult on Monday and is facing four counts of murder and one count of possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Three family members and a family friend are dead after a shooting with a semi-automatic rifle in Long Branch, New Jersey, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The shooter apparently used a Century Arms semi-automatic rifle, the statement said.

A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Long Branch Police Department is still ongoing.

Gramiccioni also said the suspect was arrested without incident.

They added that the suspect's grandfather and brother were not targeted in the attack and left the home unharmed.

The teenager, whose name was not released, was taken into custody without incident.

"It didn't require any force".

"The deceased individuals are his two parents, his sister and a family friend who lived at the residence", said prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

There was no immediate information about a motive, but the statement described the shooting as an isolated domestic incident.
