Bell County Coroner, Jay Steele, told WYMT the woman who was killed in the dog attack is Lorraine Saylor, 66.
The call came in around 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning.
A Kentucky woman is dead and her husband is severely injured after they suffered a Christmas Eve pit bull attack.
His brother rushed outside when he heard the commotion and was able to distract the dogs long enough to allow Johnny to rush inside and grab a pistol.
"I'd seen them, but I didn't think they'd be mean like that", James Saylor said.
Lorraine Saylor was pronounced scene and her husband was transported to Pineville Community Hospital with arm and head injuries. Her husband, Johnny Saylor, rushed outside to help only to be attacked by the dogs as well, according to WKRN.
According to the BCSD Facebook page, Sheriff Mitch Williams is asking the community to be on the lookout for the brown and white pit bull that ran off after being injured. He now faces another charge of harboring a vicious animal, the sheriff's department said.

Local animal control said it is searching for the injured pit bull that was shot.
The sheriff's department has confirmed that the dogs, which were responsible for the attack, did not belong to the couple.
Animal rights group PETA said that pit bulls are "the most abused dogs on Earth".
