OnePlus 5T 'Star Wars' edition phone in India for Rs 38999

Securing a Star Wars tie-in seems like something OnePlus could have used to sell a Imperial Destroyer-load of OnePlus 5T smartphones.

It's kind of hard to notice that anything has changed, until you see that blood red, alert slider popping out on the left side.

"The Star Wars OnePlus 5T is not going to be available everywhere".

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset fuels the phone, coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. There are some exclusive Star Wars: The Last Jedi wallpapers thrown in as well but no Star Wars icons in sight (which would have been a lot cooler).

Additionally, people who buy OnePlus 5T can avail zero cost EMI offer, Rs 2000 extra off on the exchange of any OnePlus device and Rs 1,000 off on the exchange of any other device. On the software front, there is a customised red, white and black theme with a set of 10 exclusive "Star Wars" wallpapers. OnePlus, in partnership with the Star Wars: The Last Jedi, unveiled the smartphone at IMAX Wadala.

The white coating on the metal back is inspired by a mineral planet Crait (from the Star Wars universe).

The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition might be particularly topical right now because of the buzz that the movie is generating, which makes the phone an interesting one to have.

Still, you can get these wallpapers, which is something.

The coating feels slightly rough although nowhere close to the sandstone finish that OnePlus used in the past. Oh, and that wonderful Star Wars theme.

In India, the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition is available at Rs 38,999, having 8GB RAM with 128 GB internal storage, with OnePlus choosing to forego the 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage variant. The differences are subtle and entirely aesthetic, but these simple touches make the device that much more attractive, especially if you're a fan of the Star Wars film series. It's a dark theme with red accents layered throughout the OS.

There's also the box the phone comes in, and the protective case that's included in the box.
