Shooting, Mall Brawl Are Early Low-Lights for Black Friday

As part of their normal holiday season security plan, Hoover police have additional officers on duty at the city's shopping centers.

The first incident they responded to was a report of shots fired in the Macy's parking lot around 10 p.m.

According to multiple media reports, over 15 Hoover police officers responded to fights breaking out between customers as well as unconfirmed reports of gunfire at about 11 p.m.

The incident occurred early on Thanksgiving night when several fights broke out at the Riverside Galleria in Birmingham, Alabama. According to Hale, witnesses reported a group of 20-30 teens firing shots. The police and the fire department arrived shortly after. They believe someone likely set off fireworks.

While Czekelba claimed the brawl wasn't sale-related, other reports explained the fight happened because one woman mistakenly hit a child with a shoe. Paramedics were called to the scene and was forced to treat the shopper for injuries, as videos of the incident showed officers restraining others - who are now thought to be the flashpoint fo the fighting and choas.

No arrests were made. He said he told his own family to get out and have some fun shopping the sales.
