Bennett claims the Packers were trying to force him to "play thru a major injury". According to Demovsky, by saying Bennett failed to disclose an injury, the Packers could try to recoup some of the unamortized portion of Bennett's $6.3 million signing bonus.
Bennett was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on Thursday.
"After conversations with my family I'm pretty sure these next eight games will be the conclusion of my National Football League career", Bennett posted.
On Wednesday, Bennett was suddenly cut from the Packers with the designation of failing to disclose an injury to the team. He also said he gave the Packers weekly reports in which he alerted them to concerns about his shoulder.
"The #Patriots say TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) was limited in practice today and is QUESTIONABLE to play Sunday in Denver".
"They tried to f-- me over", Bennett continued on his Instagram story. While he is fourth on the team with 24 receptions for 233 yards, his biggest contributions came in the run game.
After his starting quarterback was injured, Bennett tweeted during the Packers bye week that 2017 would be his final season. I advised him to get the second opinions.
"I mean, really, to tie all that together, you're asking me to get inside somebody else's feelings, conversation, more on a personal level", McCarthy said (via ESPN's Rob Demovsky).
Said tight end Richard Rodgers: "I think we know where we're trying to go".
The Packers did not have any comment after Bennett's post, but earlier on Friday coach Mike McCarthy addressed the situation. "I've answered the question for the last time, respectfully".
