India v/s Pakistan, Asia Cup Hockey

Posted October 16, 2017

Three minutes later, Lalit Upadhyay struck his second goal of the tournament when he put one past Abu Nippon as India went into the first break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

India had qualified for the Super 4s following their 7-0 win over hosts Bangladesh on Friday itself, and topped their pool with nine points from three matches.

Having already won their first two matches easily against Japan (5-1) and hosts Bangladesh (7-0), the Indians had already secured their place in the next round. Right after the victory, cricketers and sportspersons from across India hailed the team's spectacular show against Pakistan.

After Pakistan wasted their third penalty corner, Ramandeep doubled India's lead in the 44th minute with a neat deflection off Harmanpreet Singh's fantastic cross from the middle of the pitch.

India skipper Manpreet Singh was happy with the result, but felt the team needs to make improvements in the upcoming matches.

Pakistan earn their first Penalty Corner in the 15th but failed to convert it into a goal.

India's first win, in 2003, came at Pakistan's expense in the final. This was India's third consecutive win the tournament and they now progress to the next round unbeaten.

India take on Pakistan in the Pool A encounter at 5.30 pm local time, 5 pm IST.

The second quarter started well for the Indians as they produced some slick passing to take the lead in the 17th minute.

While India will be boosted by their recent form, Pakistan will take inspiration from their Asia Cup history when the two teams meet in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest later today. 13 goals over two games would have made coach Marine happy, but India's poor conversation rate of penalty corners is a cause of concern.

# Another penalty corner for Pakistan. Akashdeep Singh stole a ball in the left midfield and played it to a surging Chinglensana, who raced to the top of the circle before unleashing a powerful drive to make it 1-0. India kept their shape in the last 10 minutes of the match to finish the match 3-1 in their favour.
