India's 1st all-women Navy crew starts sail around the globe

As per reports, the second woman defence minister of the country has chose to hold daily meetings with all three service chiefs and the Defence Secretary in order to have quick decision making in the ministry.

"Daily morning meetings with the three Service Chiefs and a separate daily meeting with the Defence Secretary have been formatted as a new practice for quick decision making", it said, adding, "Towards ensuring time bound and speedy disposal, it has been chose to hold DAC meetings (defence acquisition council) on a fortnightly basis".

Defence Accquisition Council meeting will be held on a fortnightly basis to ensure time bound and speedy disposal. However, the newly-appointed Defence Minister clarified to reporters on Monday that she "did not mention the CAG report even once".

Usually the meetings of DAC were held once in a month, though at times the gap between two meetings have been longer.

Sitharaman visited the naval establishment in Panaji and Uttarlai air base in Rajasthan on Sunday.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday flagged off Indian Navy's "Navika Sagar Parikrama", the first ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. Her predecessors met the chiefs once a week.

Other areas of focus would be settling all outstanding land-related issues for infrastructure projects and matters relating to the welfare of defence personnel and their families, the ministry said.

"We shall ensure that the important characters of what makes "Make in India" an important flagship programme of the Prime Minister is given full play for defence production because India as you know is a very big defence equipment procurer".

Sitharaman was elevated to the rank of a Cabinet Minister and given the crucial charge in the recent reshuffle of the Narendra Modi Cabinet.

Sitharaman has been holding a series of meetings with top officials of the various wings of the defence ministry since taking charge as defence minister on September 7.
