What to expect on WWE Smackdown

Posted August 31, 2017

Every time it seems like things are going well for Ziggler, his push stops, and he recently disappeared from SmackDown Live completely for several weeks. Benjamin is a great worker, and pairing him with Gable makes sense at this time. Jinder Mahal put Nakamura down with his finisher. Back in and Konnor takes the heat, grounding Gable and isolating him on the Ascension's side of the ring.

While Mahal is likable as a person, his real-life story is fascinating and he wears the title well, that's about where it ends.

Before the match, AJ gloats a little over the fact that Kevin Owens can no longer challenge for the U.S. title.

Owens decides to enter the ring and take the shirt off of the referee to put on himself, showing everybody "how it's done". He then told English to get out of his ring, which English did. Aiden makes the pin and Owens counts a fast three. This was the return of the United States Championship open challenge.

After the match, Corbin throws Dillinger into the barricade and tries to attack Styles but the champ hits him with a jumping forearm to send him packing. In the match, Tye got in a bit of offense but AJ turned the tables on him and ultimately got him into the Calf Crusher for the tap out win. It looked like Corbin was getting buried a week ago, so it's nice to see him settling in now. He said that he should be US Champion but McMahon screwed him over twice.

What else happened on SmackDown?

With Orton joining him to even the numbers game that Mahal usually played with the Singh Brothers, the brouhaha looked evenly paced. They now want to kiss his feet on behalf of India.

- Next week's WWE SmackDown from Sioux Falls will feature Randy Orton vs. Shinsuke Nakamura with the victor earning a title shot from WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.

Shinsuke Nakamura had defeated John Cena earlier to become the No.1 contender. Mahal and Rusev stood tall in the ring to close the segment.

Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. It will ease Benjamin back into WWE ring-work, and it gives Gable something to do that will (hopefully) get him over with the fans.

In the highlight of WWE Smackdown on Tuesday, Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton worked together to take on WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and Rusev despite them competing against one another for an opportunity to secure a title match next week.

Bobby Roode has dazed the entire SmackDown Live with his gloriousness as he made his debut for the blue brand last week, defeating Aiden English.

Dolph Ziggler cut a backstage promo backstage about his plans taking longer than expected.

In case you didn't know...

... I'm a star. All the years and dedication and sacrifice have meant nothing.

According to Sky Sports, SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan sees Benjamin as a tag team partner for Gable, but the veteran is a skilled and underrated performer, who would undoubtedly benefit from a rivalry with AJ Styles. Xavier Woods was sidelined but ringside with an injured knee during the contest.

Naomi will get her women's championship rematch with Natalya in two weeks on SmackDown Live. Nattie steps in and tells Carmella that if she tries to cash in, she will make Carmella the Baron Corbin of the Women's division.

Lana introduced Tamina for her match. Tye asked the ref to ring the bell for the match.

Fashion Files, Back 2 Basics: Nothing specifically entertaining about this one. He was interrupted by Shinsuke Nakamura, which brought out Rusev and Randy Orton. Roode with a big boot and a neck breaker off the middle rope. Eventually, Nakamura landed the Kinshasa on Rusev for the win.
