Stress test: High-wire Cavaliers still alive in NBA Finals

Posted June 12, 2017

With the Cavaliers falling behind 0-3 to the Warriors in the NBA Finals, and the NBA Draft still a couple weeks away, what could spice things up around the league?

Some variation of those words was written or uttered somewhere nearly one year ago.

Now, for the next three days, until Game 5 starts at 9 p.m. eastern on Monday, the Warriors are going to have to hear about leading a Finals 3-1. The champions had 49 points in the first quarter. He gives the Warriors an overwhelming additional boost they need and they've responded so far with one of the most dominant postseason performances of all time.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue during the NBA Finals media day at Oracle Arena.

After both, the Warriors returned home with a 3-1 lead in this best-of-seven series.

The Warriors still have three more chances to complete their championship quest against the Cavaliers, including two at Oracle Arena.

The Cleveland Cavaliers played a great Game Three.

Richard Jefferson said the Curry celebration didn't bother the Cavs, either.

There is a lot different about this year's Warriors, namely the addition of Kevin Durant, who has been the MVP of the Finals thus far. Even with such playmaking skills, most of the other Cavalier players lacked to finish which lead to Lebron being the main candidate to score.

Maybe these chaotic Cavs are just the team to do it.

But if history somehow repeats itself, it actually would be a bigger collapse than previous year since the Warriors led this series 3-0. He just didn't get it going. "I'm pretty sure Draymond won't be suspended for Game 5".

"He knows what I expect out of him", said James.

Having solved the Warriors' approach to defending him for at least one night, Thompson is eager to go at it again.

Kerr was joking about Green.

At one point, it was announced that Green had been given his second technical foul, and security came onto the floor to usher the volatile forward to the locker room. But the officials said the scorer's table mistakenly gave a technical meant for Kerr to Green. "But last year is last year, this year is this year".

OK, so we didn't get to see the first 16-0 championship run in National Basketball Association history. "I want to see how it feels to win at home", he said. Got to come out with some fire and get it done.

"No matter who I'm going against, if I'm going against four Hall of Famers or I'm going against two or whatever the case may be, I'm always excited to play the game".

But the Cavaliers are thinking big after their big Game 4 win. After all, the Cavs-Warriors series is all but over. But the Cavaliers reverted to plays featuring dribble penetration towards the rim and passes to the corner (the shortest distance from the rim on the three point line) for efficient three-pointers.

The Cavs stars answered the call, with LeBron James providing a triple-double and Kyrie adding on 40 points to support the cause.

Also: A second quarter Irving 3 that best exemplified the Warriors' inconsistent defensive effort on this night, at times playing with the urgency of a mid-January back-to-back, not a Finals game.

And it was not lost on them that the Warriors wanted specifically to wrap up the Finals in Cleveland. "I'm a firm believer in (stuff) happens", Green said.

James said at a summer basketball camp a year ago that he found motivation in "this ghost I'm chasing-the ghost played in Chicago". The Warriors have championship DNA, and we do as well. "They made some tough shots, but we were not sharp defensively".

"Our mindset is to go out there and get one", James said.

Here we go again.
