White Sox show Sale love

With his elbow issues hopefully behind him, the 31-year-old left-hander will finally make his season debut Monday against the Chicago White Sox.

Sun staff photos can be ordered by visiting our SmugMug site. It marked one of the first times Chris Sale remembers being confronted by the business side of baseball.

Sale did hit 99 miles per hour and took the mound to an ovation, but a 42-pitch second inning sunk his day. Such emotions were somewhat expected from Sale, given both his makeup as a competitor and the occasion itself.

The left-hander received a warm welcome in his return to Chicago following his trade to Boston last winter.

The Red Sox and White Sox continue their series on Tuesday, May 30 with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m.

"I stunk tonight", Sale said.

"I don't know if we gave away the cut-up ones, but maybe we can wear them and put, like, some tape around some of the shirts, so it looks like Edward Scissorhands out there", Frazier said. "Just part of it, I guess". "It was fun walking back in here and thinking about some of those".

Red Sox manager John Farrell is ecstatic to have Sale on his team this time around in Chicago. White Sox 1B Jose Abreu's 10-game hitting streak came to an end. "So we're grateful he's in our uniform". On the season, we expect him to twirl a 4.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 19.4 strikeout percentage while going 10-9 over 159 innings. "But to see what he and Jackie (Bradley Jr., who homered, doubled and had four RBI) did down at the bottom of the order was outstanding tonight".

"I had a bad night, I really did", Sale said. Each year, I kind of learn different things about myself as a hitter and as a player. "I can't wait to see you guys.' So I'm excited to play against him".

That's the same Deven Marrero who had the lowest OPS (.487) in the Triple-A International League last season - and an even lower OPS than that (.389) when he was called up May 5 because the Red Sox were desperate for anyone who could actually catch the ball at third base. "He was starting obviously in the minor leagues, so he had been stretched out". The other full season was Sale's first, when he pitched out of the bullpen. He now has a 2.66 ERA and 1.099 WHIP through 47 innings in AA Birmingham. "Who would have thought with the two starters today [Sale and White Sox ace Jose Quintana] you'd have almost 150 pitches thrown between them through three innings?" Those who dislike him, the crowd that thinks he's a colossal waste of money with the skin thickness of President Trump, have already made up their minds. In 7 seasons with the Sox, Sale went 74-50, tossed over 1,000 innings, stuck out more than 1,200 batters and completed 14 games. The veteran starter was shut down in spring training due to soreness that left his availability for 2017 in question.

Perhaps most importantly, the White Sox finished with a losing record in each of the last four years.

"There's no hard feelings", said Sale.

Tiger Woods says medication, not alcohol, led to DUI arrest: "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved", he said. "Without a lot of people in this building I wouldn't be sitting here right now, that's for sure". However, if anyone can keep his emotions in check, it's probably Sale.
