P.K. Subban was given a two-minute penalty for roughing the Ducks' Nate Thompson. It was Anaheim striking first when Chris Wagner buried a rebound past Pekka Rinne for his 2nd playoff goal and a 1-0 lead. Anaheim has not said if he will start the Monday night. Fleury has always been up and down in the postseason, and thankfully his team is solid enough to earn him a fourth game win rather than go down 3-1. Rookie Pontus Aberg scored the game-winning goal. Johansen was hurt at an unspecified point in the Ducks' 3-2 overtime victory Thursday in Game 4, which evened a tense, physical series.
But the Western Conference final is taking the battle of attrition to another level.
"That's why it's the hardest trophy to win in sports", said forward James Neal, who scored Nashville's overtime victor in Game 1.
The Preds can close out the series and reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time with a win Monday.
Aberg fell face-first to the ice with 11:24 to play in the third period but stayed in the game.
Johansen's absence Saturday night was alleviated, though, by timely depth scoring.
Jonathan Bernier took over and stopped 16 shots in his first appearance in almost two weeks for the Ducks, who already were without 30-goal scorers Rickard Rakell and Patrick Eaves before losing Gibson to a lower-body injury. Eaves, the Ducks' top offensive trade acquisition in March, has already been sidelined for more than a week's worth of games. Bernier in the game gave Nashville pause... playoff goaltender changes have not normally been kind to this team and Jonathan Bernier has usually played very, very well against the Prteds.
Anaheim has proven they can win in Nashville.
"For us, obviously our season's on the line", said Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano. SlapShot Radio is the longest running hockey show in the mid-south and Pete Weber and I bring you the best in hockey talk all playoffs long.
"A situation like that, where I'm on the bench by myself, frustration set in", Getzlaf said.
"I just tried to bring my game out there", said Aberg. "They came out and worked harder than us in the second and third period, and that made the difference in the hockey game". His.970 save percentage Saturday was the eighth time this postseason he's saved at least 95 percent of the shots he's faced in a game, a figure that includes two shutouts. Also... full marks to Frederick Gaudreau who won 71% of his faceoffs last night... He skated in nine games during the the regular season this year for Nashville, collecting one assist. "So it's something we're focused on, but it's just about that next game and getting the next win".
Here's a look at each team's complete playoff roster, including how each player came to his current team - and how much time he spent paying his dues in the minors.
