India, Spain sign agreements in cyber security, renewable energy

"Normally, global relations see ups and downs but history is witness Indo-Russia relations have not seen any ups and downs", the prime minister said and thanked the Russian president for playing crucial role in getting India Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) membership.

The strong reference to "zero tolerance" to terrorism came as India and Spain sealed seven agreements in areas such as energy, security and civil aviation.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will be received by Russian President Vladimir Putin where two leaders will interact with the CEOs of both nations and review the decisions taken during the summit in Goa, October a year ago. "And when he was meeting the President of the government of Spain MR Rajoy, he mentioned that Spain felt very privileged to welcome an Indian Prime Minister after nearly 30 years in Spain and although the visit is short it was very purposive and filled with lot of economic components", said Bagley.

Both leaders also welcomed the holding of an India-Spain Business Summit in India in the later half of 2017 to promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. On Friday, PM Modi will participate in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum as a Guest of Honour. The two nations are targeting to raise the trade to United States dollars 30 billion in the next five years.

PM Modi said there was a special nature of trust and friendship in relations between both the countries and its people.

Earlier, Mr Modi also called on King of Spain Felipe VI at Palacio de la Zarzuela.

Prime Minister Modi also met top CEOs of leading Spanish companies and invited them to participate in initiatives like "Make in India", saying vast potential awaits them in the fast-growing nation.

"President Rajoy and Prime Minister Modi recognized that terrorism poses the gravest threat to worldwide peace and stability and expressed their strong commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations", it said. "The potential for India's accelerated growth has never been greater, nor the optimism higher", he said.

"We should also increase cooperation in the strategic field in areas such as cyber security, maritime cooperation and defense", he said. It will be the first instance of Indian participation in the business event as a partner country.
