Cavs Beat Celtics As LeBron James Tops NBA's All-Time Playoff Scoring List

Posted May 27, 2017

After allowing the Celtics to seize the early momentum in Game 4, the Cavs barely gave them the chance in Game 5. The next active player, Durant, is far behind James at 2,872 playoff points, although the Golden State forward is also four years younger.

However, James has been a more efficient postseason scorer than Jordan, needing fewer shots (4,379 to 4,497), albeit while hitting a lower percentage (.482-.487) and taking more three-pointers (971-446). He had taken his post-season career points total to 5,995 by the time he took a seat for the entire fourth quarter - along with the rest of Cleveland's starters. It's nearly impossible to beat the Cavs or the Golden State Warriors that way.

Kevin Love had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Deron Williams added 14 points in 17 minutes off the bench in the win that made Cleveland 12-1 in the postseason.

In-between, the Celtics shocked everyone by winning Game 3 in Cleveland, thanks to a game-winning three from Longhorn Avery Bradley. Last year, Cleveland became the first team in NBA Finals history to come back after trailing the series 3-1.

"The comparison of always trying to compare people, either living or still playing or not playing - I think it's great for barbershops". We're talking about LeBron James here and a Cavaliers team with some depth.

He has scored 955 of those points against Boston, the most for any player against any team. At the same time, the Cavs have to feel as though the longer that they let this series go on, the more they will be at a disadvantage when the NBA Finals begin on June 1st.

The Celtics whittled Cleveland's lead to 13 early in the second and used a mini-run to cut the Cavs' halftime lead to 18.

LeBron James found it hard to come to terms with moving past Michael Jordan's scoring record in the National Basketball Association playoffs after the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics 135-102 on Thursday.

Golden State won 73 games during the regular season a year ago. The Cavaliers will travel out to Oakland on Tuesday, with Game 1 set for next Thursday night at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors swept San Antonio Spurs 4-0 in the Western Conference finals.
