"If Miley was getting married, it would not be in that dress!"
With the cycles of pop-culture shape-shifting being what they are, the normalization of Miley Cyrus is long overdue.
Tish and Brandi were telling the truth, which was revealed today when Miley posted the video for her new single "Malibu", in which she's wearing the dress. But if her acoustic covers of Dylan and Dolly seemed like one-offs in the "Bangerz" era, "Malibu" seems created to convince us she's grown out of shock value and into a more conscious version of the girl-next-door she once seemed.
"I never would have believed you if three years ago you told me I'd be here writing this song / But here I am, next to you / The sky's more blue in Malibu", she sings.
Mailbu is the first single from Miley's upcoming album, which is due later this year.
Cyrus recently spoke to Billboard magazine about her break-up and subsequent reunion with The Hunger Games star saying they had to "re-fall for each other".
In an accompanying video, Cyrus rolls in the sun-kissed sand and sits meditatively in a field of flowers, at times petting a dog and gleefully flying an imposing bundle of balloons. After sending the fans into a frenzy with a teaser clip, she dropped the rather demure visuals for the love song to Liam Hemsworth on Thursday (11 May). "So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, 'This is how I feel?'"
