Scott's office issued a press release identifying the area after the Florida Department of Health confirmed that five people, including two women and three men, had contracted Zika.

There have been 328 travel-associated Zika virus infections in the state as of October 7, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Though Wynwood's status as an active transmission zone has been lifted, the state and CDC have not yet removed their travel warnings for Miami Beach.

The Zika virus is particularly risky to pregnant women because it can cause birth defects such as microcephaly, in which babies are born with unusually small heads and deformed brains.

The fifth case was confirmed Thursday.

St Lucia says it has recorded an increase in the number of the Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) even as the island notes a decreasing trend in the number of cases of the mosquito-borne Zika virus.

"We appreciate the fact that we've had great attention on mosquito control in this state". Pregnant women's sexual partners living in or returning from areas with Zika virus outbreaks should ensure safer sex or abstain from sex for the duration of their partner's pregnancy.

That area has since been declared clear of any mosquitoes that might be spreading Zika, and health authorities have credited aerial insecticide spraying for eliminating the infected mosquitoes.

The CDC says a little more than 3,000 imported cases have been discovered in the U.S. Four were negative and one was a positive imported case. Among those who do develop symptoms, sickness is usually mild, with symptoms that last for several days to a week.

She said a male person bitten by a Zika carrying mosquito can transfer it to his wife or to his intimate partner. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes).
