Madeline is expected to pass "dangerously close" to South Point late Wednesday into early Thursday, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said Tuesday evening.

Wind speed diminished steadily throughout the day and by 11 p.m. local time, it was swirling at 50 miles per hour. "The state is monitoring the storms and standing by to support the counties".

Gov. Ige signed an emergency proclamation yesterday ahead of hurricanes Madeline and Lester.

The NHC said additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 to 36 hours, and Hermine is expected to be a hurricane as it reaches the Florida's northern Gulf Coast by Thursday afternoon and then sweep across northern parts of the state with driving rain, then northeast along the Atlantic Coast.

Several could make landfall - or at least brush the coastline - later this week, bringing heavy rains and possible flooding.

This infrared look at Tropical Storm Madeline on August 31 at 2341 UTC (7:41 p.m. EDT) from the AIRS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite shows that the stronger storms with coldest cloud top temperatures were in purple.

A hurricane watch is in effect from Florida's Anclote River just northwest of Tampa to Indian Pass in the Florida Panhandle and a tropical storm warning is in effect elsewhere from the Anclote River to the Walton Bay County line.

Airmen from the 15th Wing, 735th Air Mobility Squadron, 535th Airlift Squadron and even the 55th Airlift Port Squadron from Travis AFB, Calif., all teamed up to deliver emergency supplies in preparation for Hurricane Madeline, which is slated to collide into the Hilo region of Hawaii's Big Island later today.

"Users are reminded to not focus too closely on the exact forecast track, as small changes can lead to differences in impacts and that hazards associated with hurricanes can extend well away from the center", forecasters said in a statement Tuesday.

"We are not out of the woods", Aton said. Lester is expected to gradually weaken through Friday.

All County of Hawaii facilities, offices and services will be closed Wednesday including Hele-On Bus service, solid waste transfer stations and landfills. After it passes it's expected to further weaken to a tropical storm. Civil Defense warn residents to brace for winds around 75 miles per hour, high surf and upwards of 15 inches of rain. Its sustained winds dropped to 90 mph as hurricane-force winds extended out to 25 miles from the center and tropical storm-force winds were up to 12 miles outward. It still has maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour, though forecasts expect it to weaken slightly through early Thursday.

Hawaii Island is now under a hurricane warning.

The Big Island and Maui County remain under a tropical storm warning, though the storm is weakening, with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. A warning was dropped about a tropical depression that had been moving toward North Carolina.

Like most of the guidance, this track takes Lester northeast of the main Hawaiian Islands.

"It doesn't matter if it's a strong tropical storm or a category 1 hurricane", said Eric Lau, a meteorologist with the weather service.

USA oil and gas producers in east of the Gulf of Mexico removed workers from 10 offshore platforms, moved drilling rigs and shut some output because of the storm.
